>> where things stand is that the majority leader, harry reid, has commendably said we will have a vote, a ban on illegal trafficking and straw purchasing, very significant. a requirement for background checks on all purchases of firearms, including private sales. and a school safety measure. all of them approved by the judiciary committee where i serve and there will be at least two amendments, maybe more, one offered by senator feinstein that will oppose the assault weapon ban and a prohibition on high-capacity magazines, ten bullets or more. >> will those two amendments pass? do they have any chance at passage in your estimation? >> there will be a second amendment that will prohibit high-capacity magazines, separate from the first. in other words splitting out that measure, which i am helping spearhead. now i think there will be significant gun safety legislation. and that the votes are there for some of the elements now and we're working very hard to reach out to some of the swing votes. at this point what's really needed is to mobilize the silent majority. if you look at the polls
